Step 1: Make a diamond pickaxe. To make a diamond pickaxe, you will need (3) diamonds. Diamonds are one of the rarest blocks in Minecraft. It will take you some time to find them, so I recommend you start here if you do not have diamonds already. To find diamonds faster inMinecraft, look in caves deep underground. The more area you mine, the greater the chances you have at finding a cave.

Step 2: Create obsidian blocks. Obsidian blocks are created when lava meets water. In order to create obsidian, you will need to bring a bucket of water to a lava pool. Lava pools are found deep underground. Dump the water bucket on a block above the lava, so that it spreads over the lava. The lava blocks will turn into obsidian. Step 3: Mine the obsidian blocks. To mine obsidian in Minecraft, you will need a diamond pickaxe. No other pickaxe will mine obsidian. The obsidian blocks are strong and blast proof. They will take a long time to mine. Be patient. You will need at least (10) obsidian blocks to make a portal.

Step 4: Construct the portal. To make a portal in Minecraft, construct the obsidian blocks in a vertical frame that is (3) blocks high and (2) blocks wide. You do not need the corner pieces, which are just aesthetically pleasing. To see the visual on the portal construction, click here: portal

Step 5: Set fire to the inside of the portal. To set fire to the portal in Minecraft, you will need flint and steel. You can obtain flint by mining gravel blocks. Using a crafting table, place an iron ingot next to a piece of flint. The iron ingot can be obtained by heating iron ore in a furnace. Step 6: Enter the Nether.
Once you set fire to the portal in Minecraft, a purple sheen will appear inside the portal frame. Step into the portal and wait a few seconds. You will see the world around you get blurry and you will exit the portal into the Nether. Be warned that if you construct multiple portals, you may forever lose your place in the Minecraft world. Stick to one portal.

Be cautious when exploring the Nether, as there is lava and fire everywhere. Even more dangerous is huge overhanging cliffs that seem to drop out of sight. There is no sky in the Nether, just a ceiling above your head with more blocks. Therefore, the Nether is very dark and dependent on lava and fire for light.
